Mianyang Robot Team Debuts: Experts in Patrol, Firefighting, and Rescue(转自:涪江观察)

On June 2, the Construction Engineering Fire Protection Committee of the Science and Technology Commission of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, together with the Mianyang Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, held the 2026 Science and Technology Week “Bionic Robot Demonstration Event” at the Mianyang Bionic Robotics R&D Base.

In complex environments such as rubble, stairs, and narrow spaces, Quadruped Robot dogs demonstrated excellent mobility by overcoming obstacles with ease. Equipped with modules for search and rescue, material transport, and firefighting, these robot dogs performed inspection and rescue tasks on site, receiving strong positive feedback from attendees.

At the event, Woob Robotics presented several quadruped robot dogs, each with specialized capabilities:

  1. The emergency Rescue Robot dog features a dual-vision system combining panoramic “Eagle Eye” cameras and thermal imaging. It can operate in darkness and heavy smoke, supports two-way communication, detects six types of hazardous gases, and provides real-time environment mapping and positioning.
  2. The emergency support robot dog acts like a “steel pack horse.” Even with a 20 kg load, it moves quickly, climbs stairs, and crosses rubble. It supports intelligent following and autonomous obstacle avoidance, enabling accurate delivery of firefighting equipment, medical supplies, and other materials.
  3. The firefighting robot dog is designed for fire emergencies. It can reach speeds of over 10 km/h, with a maximum water spray distance of more than 40 meters. The spray angle ranges from 10 to 50 degrees, and it includes a water curtain cooling system. Multiple robot dogs can work together in coordinated firefighting operations.

During the discussion session, participants focused on key challenges in real-world applications, such as inspection of hidden spaces in existing buildings, post-fire structural assessment, and operations in high-risk environments. They also discussed difficulties in urban renewal, including incomplete original data in older communities and historic districts. Key topics included technology optimization, application cost, scenario adaptation, and industry promotion.

“These robot dogs can replace humans in some scenarios to face extremely dangerous environments such as fire scenes and disaster ruins, making emergency rescue faster and safer. They can also play an important role in the construction sector,” said Qin Ningran, Secretary-General of the Fire Protection Committee. He added that the intelligent inspection, firefighting, and rescue robot dogs demonstrated in Mianyang are leading examples in China. He expressed hope to deepen cooperation and bring advanced robot dog technology into more construction and fire safety applications, improving urban safety and enhancing people’s sense of security and well-being.

In Mianyang, Smart Robot Dogs have already been applied in the construction and fire safety sectors. The local housing authority and research institutes are promoting innovation programs, exploring AI-based drawing review and on-site inspection. Smart platforms are also used for remote safety inspections and real-time monitoring of lifting equipment, further improving safety and efficiency.
